May Day Open 2011

May Day Open No Comments »

This year’s May Day open was bizarre to say the least. First, we played it 7 months late on December 4, 2011. Secondly, we had our first technical problem. After 16 rounds, the entire tournament was reset. No one is sure what happened. So we decided to start completely over. Nathan McGraw won his third tournament in a row. He now has 4 tournament victories. He is just 2 shy of Shaun McGuire’s 6 tournament victories. Another strange occurrence was a 3-way tie for the Mad Bomber Award. The award was shared by Nathan McGraw, Jeff McGraw and Tara Pilliard. This marks Tara’s first appearance on the King Bomber plaque.

Over the last 3 tournaments, Nathan McGraw has won all 3, won the Mad Bomber Award (or tied for first) 3 times and was B-Point King during this last tournament. This is the most dominating span in the history of our tournament.

The May Day Open 2011 tournament marked the return of Shaun McGuire. Shaun had missed our last 2 tournaments. He is currently ranked number 1.

Participants: Shaun McGuire (Black Bomber), Jeff McGraw (White Bomber), Nathan McGraw (Manjimaru), Tara Pilliard (Kabuki), Rob Pilliard (Bonks), Celia McGraw (Kinu) and Lou Pilliard (Kotestsu).

This marks the 10th anniversary of the Thanksgiving Invitational tournament (took place on November 26, 2011) and our 11th tournament overall. This was also our first Thanksgiving Invitational not played on Thanksgiving. It was played 2 days later on Saturday. Nathan McGraw won his third Thanksgiving Day Invitational. He now ranks second in all-time wins. He is second only to Shaun McGuire who has 6 wins. Nathan also created history by winning both the championship and the Mad Bomber Award in the same tournament 2 years in a row. Nathan McGraw is tied for second (with Brian McGuire) most Mad Bomber Award wins with 2.

Nathan McGraw wrapped up this year’s tournament fairly early. With 3 rounds left to play, Nathan won his 8th round. The next closest at this point was Jeff McGraw with 4 round wins.

We once again had a participant from outside the USA. This year Charléne Atteia participated, coming all the way from France.

Participants: Nathan McGraw (Manjimaru), Jeff McGraw (Miss Honey), Cyril Pimentel (Bonks), Rob Pilliard (Master Higgins), Tara Pilliard (Kabuki), Christian McGraw (Black Bomber), Emily Pilliard (Kinu) and Charléne Atteia (White Bomber).

Saturn Bomberman Friendly #1

Saturn Bomberman Friendly No Comments »

On December 28th, 2010 we held our first ever Saturn Bomberman Friendly. Instead of only having 2 tournaments a year, we have decided to add a number of “Friendlies” throughout the year. These will be structured the same as the tournaments. But they will not be official tournaments. The Friendlies are designed to bring in new players and also for veteran players to hone their skills during “tournament like” conditions. Friendly statistics will not count towards our records. However, overall rankings are subject to change based on Friendly results (as well as our normal tournaments).

Our first Friendly ended in similar fashion to our Thanksgiving Day 2010 tournament. Our reigning champion, Nathan McGraw, won and tied with Jeff McGraw for the Mad Bomber Award. We also had three new players: Gabriel Boyd II, Jon Buehne and Khadir Muhammad.

Participants: Nathan McGraw (Manjimaru), Jeff McGraw (White Bomber), Gabriel Boyd II (Miss Honey), Jon Buehne (Kotetsu), Khadir Muhammad (Black Bomber), Gabriel Boyd (Master Higgins) and Joyce Guedes (Kinu).

Thanksgiving Day Tournament 2010

Thanksgiving Invitational No Comments »

This marks the ninth edition of the Thanksgiving Invitational tournament (took place on November 25, 2010) and our 10th tournament overall. Nathan McGraw won his second Thanksgiving Day Invitational. He now becomes the second person to win more than one tournament (Shaun McGuire has 6 wins). Nathan also created history by tying for first (with Jeff McGraw) for the Mad Bomber Award. This makes Nathan the only player to win both the championship and the Mad bomber Award in the same tournament. By tying with Nathan McGraw for the Mad Bomber Award, Jeff McGraw now has won the award 3 times (a tournament record).

Rob Pilliard came in second place despite leading in B Points (kills). In the final round, either Nathan or Rob could have won the tournament. Nathan had a 1 win lead over Rob, but Rob had a 1 point advantage in the tie-breaker (B Points).

We once again had a participant from outside the USA. This year Joyce Guedes (her second tournament) participated, coming all the way from Brazil.

Participants: Nathan McGraw (Manjimaru), Jeff McGraw (White Bomber), Celia McGraw (Kinu), Rob Pilliard (Black Bomber), Tara Pilliard (Kabuki), Brian McGuire (Bonk), Lou Pilliard (Kotetsu) and Joyce Guedes (Master Higgins).
